The DTS (Discipleship Training School) at YWAM Tahlee is a once in a lifetime experience for your relationship with God. Escape from the ‘hustle and bustle’ to hear God’s voice and discover His plan for your life within the beauty of nature. 

There will be 12 weeks of lectures on topics such as “The Father heart of God”, “Lifestyle Evangelism”, and “Living Word”. 

DTS is a rich spiritual experience where you will be inspired to pursue a deep relationship with God in ways you may have not considered possible. We provide an environment where you will learn how to personally apply Biblical truths and be challenged as your character grows to reflect Christ and become an agent of change in the world today. 

There is no limit to the possibilities of where God might take you through a YWAM DTS. From the deep friendships to your new outlook on life, this accredited course is designed to give you the knowledge, support and practical experience you need to powerfully live out your calling.

The Discipleship Training School is a great opportunity for those considering a gap year or wanting to take time out to seek God and develop their faith to the next level, with the support of a team.

This course is ideal for anyone over 18 years old who is hungry to get to ‘Know God and make Him Known’, learning how to share their faith in their school, university or workplace.

  • LECTURE PHASE

  • We believe we are all called to know God and to make Him known. Our courses reflect this in the way they are structured with each DTS being divided into two parts; lectures and outreach. During the lecture phase you will have the opportunity to get to know God more deeply as you hear from world-class speakers on a variety of topics.

    Learn and grow alongside your fellow students as you live together in a dynamic community environment. Get hands on experience as you serve in one of our existing ministries and be developed through weekly mentoring.

    Topics Covered: Recognising God’s Voice, Character & Nature of God, Father Heart of God, Biblical Worldview, Missions, Evangelism and more!

  • OUTREACH

  • The outreach phase will take you to places you’ve only ever dreamed about as you see the Good News of Jesus changing lives in the nations! Make God known as you give away what you’ve learned in practical ways. Grow in confidence as you share your testimony to large audiences and be willing to serve as you see the practical needs of the location you’re in.

    This could be through kids ministry, sports ministry, cleaning up neighbourhoods, assisting the homeless, running Bible studies, street evangelism, teaching English and more! Discover how your passions and skills can be used for God. Gain fresh perspective as you travel cross-culturally and discover God’s heart for the nations.

  • ELECTIVES/FOCUSES

  • As part of your DTS experience you have the opportunity to experience an elective or focus. Depending on your school size, you’ll have the opportunity to choose either an elective during your DTS, or choose the overall focus of the DTS based on which quarter you decide to apply for (i.e Outdoor Adventures, Classic, etc.).

    Electives reflect the strengths and call of YWAM Tahlee’s ministry and the school leader of your chosen quarter. As part of your chosen elective you will join with students from the other electives running in your preferred quarter in one DTS lecture phase. Each DTS will have a coordinator gathering students around that elective. This may come in forms such as small group activities, excursions, events, or guest speakers.

    While you’ll have specific times for your DTS elective, this will not occur every week. It is important to see electives as a point of gathering similar individuals without taking priority over the core purpose of the DTS. However, we cannot guarantee that each DTS elective will have a major representation on the outreach phase. Our hope is to look for how we can incorporate the elective on outreach but factors outside our control such as culture, event coordination, and ministry contact preferences may affect what is possible.

    An elective is defined by:

    • Gathering similar individuals
    • A leader with an affinity or passion for that elective (but not required)
    • Low level, structured inclusion during lecture phase
    • Outreach inclusion of the elective where culturally possible and appropriate

    About Focuses:

    Some DTS’ includes a variety of activities related to the focus of the DTS instead of running electives. For example, the Outdoor and Adventure DTS will include more on outdoor activity and adventure opportunities (such as hiking, camping, canoeing, etc.) than a Classic DTS would. You can choose the overall focus of your DTS by talking to the Communications team through enquiring online to learn more about that specific school.

    The February school is the Adventure DTS. Embarking on outdoor adventures while getting to know God and making Him known are all part of the experience. Get ready for hikes, camping, beach swims, bush walks and campfires together as we learn to follow Jesus, hear His voice, and get equipped for missions together in the dynamic, outdoorsy, absolute waterfront environment of Tahlee.

    DTS costs are comprised of two fees to cover both lecture phase and outreach. Costs vary depending on outreach locations. All costs include accommodation and food for the duration of your course as well as transport to your outreach location/s.

    Lecture Phase: $4,990 AUD

    Outreach Phase ( approx ) : $4,000 – $6,000 AUD

  • ACCREDITATION

  • DTS is just the beginning. Once you’ve completed your Discipleship Training School with YWAM Tahlee, a world of opportunities is opened up to you!

    YWAM Tahlee is affiliated with the University of The Nations (UofN), an international missionary training institute with campuses in 160 nations, in 600 locations, on all continents.

    The UofN seeks to offer quality, tertiary education whilst also serving to increase workers, resources and ministries for the mission field.

    Whilst the University of the Nations is not recognised within Australia, you will receive credit through the courses we offer towards degrees with the UofN. For more information about degree tracks and the UofN colleges please enquire directly through the UofN website here.

    The Discipleship Training School is registered with the University of the Nations (UofN). Upon completion of this course you will receive 22 credits towards your chosen degree (DSP 211/ 212).

    The DTS is an accredited Certificate III in Discipleship. 

    Austudy is available for Australian students enrolled in this course.
